Cleo Wilkinson, Pledge, mezzotint

Cleo Wilkinson is the two time winner of the Mini Print International and we are excited to host a solo exhibit of her beautiful mezzotints in the Ink Shop Studio Gallery!

Cleo describes her process as nursing an image out of its black womb into light. She explores stillness, silence and the loneliness of a form. "I like to suggest not prescribe - what is missing in the shadows and is suggested provides the greatest potential for me."

Cleo Wilkinson graduated with first class honours degree in New Zealand and Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Science (Australia). She has continued with further studies at Oxford University, UK, New York Academy of Fine Art NYC, the Art Students League of New York, Grand Central Academy of Art , NYC USA , Barcelona Atelier of Realist Art , Spain. A recipient of over 50 major international and national print awards her work is included in over 90 internationally significant collections , galleries and museums worldwide . Her work has been included in over 300 International Print Exhibitions and has been artist in residence and visiting artist in over 30 international locations.

The Mezzotint Print technique remains unchanged for the last 300 years it achieves tonality by roughening the metal plate with a rocker to produce a rich black creating a high level of tonal richness then painstaking burnishing of the plate and many trial printings to create the image .The tiny dots created on the plate by the roulette are the ancestor of the Pixel.
