Rebecca Hahn | What is Home?   6/2/2017 – 6/30/2017

A latitudinal study of North America between Providence, RI and Seattle, WA as seen from the seat of a bicycle and through the lens of affordable housing.

“These monotypes represent my interest in the relationships between humans and their localities. I find it easy to romanticize going abroad to see nice crusty buildings, all the while overlooking and taking for granted the far-reaching beauty of our own home, the United States. The privilege and opportunity that comes with having a home is often neglected by those with the freedom to not think about it.

While making this work I was thinking about the moments like I experienced on the side of Route 20 in Nebraska, changing the 4th flat tire of the day under the blaring mid-afternoon sun. I was continuously reminded of how magnificent and powerful the mountains are every time I sweat my way to the top.”

Earnest Hemingway has said “… you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle”, and boy I don't think those words could be any more honest.
