CREATIVE
PROCESSES
Intro
to Printmaking
Pamela Drix
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday February 25, 26, 27 10AM-1PM
$165 +$10 for materials
The first part of this course is a broad overview of printmaking techniques for
people who want to learn how to identify fine art prints. We will learn to
identify lithographs, silkscreens, reliefs, etchings, letterpress, and digital
images. We will look at a portfolio of contemporary prints and discuss different
approaches and methods. In the second part of the class, each participant will
do one gum transfer print and learn how to tear paper, modify and mix inks, and
register multiple plates. We will also discuss printmaking papers and inks used
in different processes. If possible we will take a trip to the Johnson Museum
to see prints in their collection.
The Collagraph Plate
Pam Drix
Tuesdays and Thursday April 22, 24, 29 6PM-9PM
$165 +$25 for materials
Made popular by artists Clare Romano and John Ross in the 70's, collagraphs
utilized the new acrylic mediums developed at that time. Today, collagraphs are
a versatile and expressive form of mixed-media printmaking that create uniquely
textural images. Plates can be built up like low relief sculptures with a
variety of media such as acrylic modeling paste, found or natural materials,
paper and carborundum. Collagraphs can be printed like an intagiio, relief, or a
combination of the two. This is a great course for beginners because it allows
for experimentation. More advanced students can try combining these printed
plates with other intaglio plates, gum transfers, or relief plates.
Hidden Rooms: Unique Architectural Space
Kumi Korf
Saturday and Sunday May 17, 18 10PM-4PM
$220 + $15 for materials
This inventive book transforms and expands a simple cube (approximately 5x5x5”)
into a series of hidden rooms, filled with surprises and delights, which can be
arranged in a variety of architectural configurations. The cube is in fact a box
divided into quarters; each segment – either separately, or four sections
together – becomes a vehicle for poetry, surreal theatre, personal narration,
comments on issues, or just space design, expressed with the use of collage
materials in two or three dimensions. Although the structure itself is simple
and easy to construct, the possibilities offered by this book are limitless and
particularly inspirational.
Make it Blue
Laurie Snyder
Saturday and Sunday June 28, 29 10AM-2PM
$150 + $25 for materials

artist to make blue prints from negatives, paper stencils, digital images,
botanical material, and any other materials that will hold back light.
Traditionally, cyanotypes are exposed in the sunshine, but as we live where it
is grey, there will be an alternative light source available. Students will
bring their own negatives (the bigger the better) and any other materials that
they think will make an interesting pattern. Papers and chemistry will be
